Ascot/1711 2024 Schools Bake-Off Finals

ROYAL ASCOT GENERAL ADMISSION TICKETS SELLING FAST - THURSDAY & SATURDAY EXPECTED TO SELL OUT FIRST

On Monday 11th March we hosted the finals of the Ascot/1711 2024 Bake-Off Competition.  This followed heats that took place in 14 schools across Slough, RBWM and Bracknell Forest.

The teams had designed, created, baked and decorated their own Tray Bake following this year’s theme of ”Royal Ascot”; locating and using locally sourced ingredients and creating a mood board showing their journey from sourcing to design, decoration and naming of their creation.

Judges for the event were Gemma Amor, 1711 Executive Chef, Matthew Humphreys, 1711 Head of Operations and Guest Judge Eric Lanlard, Celebrity Pâtissier, who all brought a wealth of experience.

Following the judging, students, teachers and parents enjoyed a career talk with the 1711 Training Team together with an interactive Q & A session followed by a tour of the hospitality areas.

“Learning to Work are thrilled to once again be working with the Ascot Racecourse and 1711 team to bring this wonderful activity to local students. The best way to learn new skills, develop great communication, meet new people and feel confident in presenting is in a fun environment engaging in an equally fun activity, and the Ascot 1711 Bake-Off competition meets each of these criteria, applied learning at its best! The students have been fantastic, and it has been great to invite parents along too, allowing them to see firsthand the creativity, presenting ability and culinary skills of their children.” Nancy Lalor Operations Director Learning to Work

‘We are thrilled to be part of this prestigious event which has taught the children so much about teamwork, resilience and the world of work.  Having built this project into our curriculum, we are delighted to be taking part for the third year. The boys who are here today representing our school have fully embraced the opportunity and are proud of this achievement.  Our thanks go to Ascot Racecourse, 177 by Ascot and the Learning to Work team for making this possible. What a phenomenal day!’ Anna Smith, Head Teacher.
